HP Envy 5660 printer wireless setup

Before you print or scan to your printer from a computer through a wireless network, you must first connect the printer to the network, and then install software on the computer. See below for step by step directions via Windows and Mac!

Setting up the printer for a wireless network with Windows

Step 1: Prepare for installation

Before you install the printer software for a wireless network, make sure you know your network name and password, and your computer and printer are prepared for the installation.

  1. Gather the following items:
    • Network name: The Wi-Fi network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
    • Security passphrase: WEP key or WPA, which is your Wi-Fi password.
    • A computer that is connected to the wireless network
    • Internet access (recommended): HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL

Note: Internet access is not required for you to install your printer with a wireless connection. However, you do need Internet access to use Web Services, get printer updates, and to download drivers from the HP website.

    • Your wireless-capable printer: Place it close to the computer during the installation procedure
    • A USB cable: Used only during the wireless installation
  2. Make sure that the printer, router, and computer are all turned on, and that the computer is connected to the same wireless network you want to connect the printer to.
  3. Disconnect any USB cable that is connected to the printer.
  4. If you previously installed the software for a USB connection and now want to change to a wireless network connection, follow these instructions to remove the USB installation before you continue.
    • Open or search for the HP folder in your list of installed software programs, click the folder for your printer, and then click the name of your printer.
    • The HP Printer Assistant software opens.
    • Click Utilities, and then click Printer Setup & Software Selection.
    • Click Convert a USB connected printer to wireless or Connect a new printer (the phrase differs depending on the version of software your computer is running).
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to finish installing the software. Once you have set up the printer on the wireless network, there is no need to continue with the steps in this document.
